Rocklahoma

May is upon us my friends that means it's time for rock festivals! These festivals are some of the largest events in America, the crowds at these concerts are enormous and so full of energy that I can't even describe the feeling. The concert I'd like to focus in this post is one of the largest 3 day music festivals in the entire nation, that's right I'm talking about...

                                                          (Photo from rocklahoma.com)

Going into their 8th year of this event they are hitting it in full stride with about 50 bands performing over Memorial weekend, the estimated attendance over the recent years have been near 100,000 people insane right? Below are some the household bands that will be performing throughout the weekend.

New Albums!

Let the countdown to summer begin! Since its almost that time of year it provides bands a sense of urgency to put out new albums to promote for their upcoming tours, this is known as concert season!
It's critical for bands to put out a quality group of songs during this time so they can generate the maximum amount of revenue for their events. So I wanted to share with my viewers some of the most anticipated releases that are coming out right before concert season officially kicks off!

April 14th

I've posted about Halestorm in the past and the time has finally arrive after 3 long years for a new album! They produced four great singles to introduce the record Mayhem, I am the Fire, Amen, and Apocalyptic. The link below is to their album, I recommend tracks 3,10,13,14 plus any of the singles. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qm7DsxqYEjc

May 12

It's been a few years since Hinder was last on the rock scene.
Over the past couple years the landscape of the band has changed to a certain degree because the lead singer Austin Winkler had to leave the band due to health issues and entered himself into rehab while the band carried on. Now the band is moving in a new direction with a new lead vocalist Marshal Dutton but using the same familiar sound us rockers love from the band. Definitely check out the album next month! Click the link to listen to their new single.

June 23

This is one of the most anticipated albums of the summer for me! Breaking Benjamin has produced an album since 2009, so they're motivated to put themselves back on the map with all the other great rock bands. Many people can relate to their music
because of the time and thought that goes into their lyrics,
they've done a great job in the past using different
the tempos in their songs so some are harder rock than others. Dark Before Dawn should be well worth the wait! Click on the link below to preview their new album with their new single  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BDzE3lY9CII

Dosage of Acoustics

Rock music isn't always about how hard you rift on the guitar nor is it about just banging the hell out of the drums. A good change of pace for rock is acoustic, this style of rock music puts more emphasis on the vocals and lyrics of the song instead of the instrumental. Sometimes as listeners we  base our opinion off the rhythm of a song and base our opinion off that instead of actually listening to the meaning behind the music. This is an important element to a song and which is why I wanted to dedicate this week's dosage playlist to bands who do a great job of representing this specific style of rock n' roll. Comment below on which style you like better electric or acoustic. Enjoy everyone!

Dosage of the "Double X Chromosome"

Just wanted to share with the viewers some of the collaborations these bands have made. All you fellas out there I know you'll appreciate these ladies and girls give your fellow sisters the props they deserve, both bands are class act performers!

Girls Are on The Rise

We all remember the 80's bands with a woman as lead-vocal like Heart, and Pat Benatar, they've set the tone for aspiring girl rock musicians. Over the past 15 years there just hasn't been many other bands that can come close to compare. But there are a few now that are starting to hear some rumble about. I wanted to dedicate this post to all the girl musicians that know how to hang with the big boys!

HALESTORM

Lead by front woman Lizzy Hale, Halestorm has only been around for a short period of time and they have already accomplished some incredible achievements. In 2013 Halestorm's single Love Bites (So do I) was nominated for the Grammy Best Hard Rock Metal/ Performance, they not only were nominated but THEY WON! The band has only been relevant since 2009 but are making huge strides. The best part is this is only the beginning for them, Halestorm hasn't even come close to hitting their peak yet. I'm AMPED for the release of their 3rd studio album "Into the Wild Life" on April 14th and they will hitting the road promoting this album next month and they are even performing in Kansas City, Missouri on May 30th at Liberty Memorial. Halestorm will blow you away!

THE PRETTY RECKLESS

( Photo From Wikipedia.org)

The Pretty Reckless is down same path Halestorm took to stardom. Fun Fact: the lead singer Taylor Momsen most of have seen her before. She is not only a musician but she was a child actor as well. Remember the move The Grinch Staring Jim Carrey? Taylor played Cindy Lou Who! Who would've ever guessed that Cindy Lou Who loved to melt faces with her music in her spare time. But more power to her, The Pretty Reckless are making a name for themselves quickly! They have only been together since 2010 and only 2 studio albums, the only way for this band to go is up. They created a huge buzz in the rock genre as a whole and continue to set themselves apart from the rest. They will be performing with Halestorm at Liberty Memorial, everybody should go check them out they are definitely worth the money!

Playlist for RANGE OF ROCK

This is the follow up post for Rock On The Range on a few samples of the variety of musicians that will be performing at the festival! Turn up the volume and rock out, enjoy everyone!

A Rang of Rock

Since we all are getting spring fever I wanted to share a few posts on some excellent festivals that are gonna be happening in the near future. The one largest weekend festival of bands in the United States, with a range of music not just rock. And it's called.......

ROCK ON THE RANGE

3 day music festival with 50 bands headlined each night from groups like Judas Priest, Linkin Park, Rise Against, and Godsmack and many more. All 4 bands definitely deserve their credit but it's the middle bands of the lineup that makes this concert great I highly suggest to check it out! The event is based in Columbia Ohio at the Mapfre stadium, 3 stages non-stop music ALL WEEKEND sounds like right way to kick off concert season! If this sounds like something you'd like to attended the link to the site is above. What do you guys think? Does this sound like a concert you'd attend? Is there any band you're curious to see? Dosage of ROCKFEST

I wanted to dedicate this weeks playlist to the announcement of ROCKFEST 2015. The order of the playlist is the order of appearance from opener to the headliner and the great news is that this only half of the concert! But these are main performers. Hopefully I'll see some of you guys out there, it's an experience you don't want to miss!

CABIN FEVER

I speak for everybody when I say thank goodness spring is among us! Want to kick it off right for summer? ROCKFEST is the place to start! The video is all the convincing you'll need...

I'm not a huge Zombie fan myself but I've heard he can put on a great performance. I'm looking forward to seeing all the bands that lead up to him.  I've seen them all in past concerts and they know how to put on a good show. If you enjoy music festivals and don't mind being outdoors with 50,0000 other fans then this is the concert for you!

Alternative Dosage

IT'S THAT TIME OF THE WEEK AGAIN!

Here's the latest playlist of the best songs from the alternative groups I described in my last post! Hope you guys enjoy the bands as much as I do!

Alternative Bands

Remember those loud punk bands of the early 2000's, the ones with the rebellious teenage lyrics with a catchy tune that any kid could related too? They've had their 15 minutes of fame, but like all good things they had to come to an end unfortunately... Some have still managed to stay around but aren't in the spotlight as they once were. Below is a list of some of the bands I'm talking about.

00's Alternative Bands
  • blink-182
  • Third-Eye Blind
  • Sum 41
  • The Offspring
  • Good Charlotte
  • Simple Plan

A Lost Generation of Rock

Punk hasn't gotten the credit it's deserved in quite some time! These bands were revolutionary at the turn of century for rock music it was something most people weren't use to listening to. Punk bands haven't been that successful in reaching The Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame, all bands I listed above have not accomplished that goal until now!

Times Are Changing

Green Day (picture on the above) has recently been inducted into the 2015 Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame. This shows as time goes by more people are beginning to appreciate the bands that separated themselves apart from all the other groups. These unique bands have made an impact on rock music and deserve to be recognized in the Hall of Fame. Being apart of this generation that grew up listening to groups like these guys, I have have hopes in seeing more punk bands be honored and go down in history with all the other greats that have came before them!

New Kids on the Block

Being among the Greats!

Metal bands don't normally get the lime light from the music industry outside of their respected genre. But if it's done correctly the chance to become something legendary! Being in conversations of the likes of bands such as Metallica, Tool, and Judas Priest. Avenged Sevenfold has excellent opportunity to be ranked with some of the all time great bands. Their popularity has steadily grown with every record as they have produced approximately 8 million copies sold of their 6 albums!

Here is a link to a relatively recent article on the attendance and earning of the biggest metal bands in 2014. You'd be surprised to see the bands the have already passed and Avenged Sevenfold's first album was released in 2002
http://www.metalinjection.net/latest-news/earnings-attendance-for-recent-metallica-avenged-sevenfold-tool-and-more-shows

Sky is the Limit for A7X!

Avenged Sevenfold (A7X) hasn't quite hit there peak just yet, they have established an identity for their band now. They've had to endure some adversity along the way. Unfortunately their drummer James (The Rev) Sullivan died from overdosing on oxycodone and heart enlargement in 2009. He played a huge part in the bands success not only was he the drummer he also was a vocalist/songwriter/pianist, The Rev was a true musician. His vocals are feature in all the albums leading up to his death, some are implemented into their new work as well. A7X went into a dark period after his sudden but rose from it and embraced their fellow brother through their music.

I want to share a link to a playlist of variety of some songs in no particular order by Avenged Sevenfold that shows their individuality as a band. I've been fortunate enough  to see these guys perform in 2011 at the Cricket Amphitheater and the can put on a heck of show! Hope you enjoy, comment on your thoughts on the bands music!

AWARD SEASON

Well... Unfortunately it is that time of year again my friends, that the only shows that seem to be on television are award ceremonies for celebrities to glorify themselves for DOING THEIR JOB.. I'm sure everyone would love their job if you got an fancy trophy every time you did it correctly. But that is a topic for another day.

Shift in Pop-Culture Interest
We all know the 80's hair bands, the 90's with their grunge rock and pop music, and this generation is focused on mostly pop and rap music. And with the Grammys just passing us I decided to share how rock bands compare to artists of other genres in recent years. Over the past 5 years artists who won record of the year have been Sam Smith, Daft Punk, Adele, Goyte, and Lady Antebellum. The last time a rock band received this award was Green Day in 2006. But this does come to no surprise rock bands have never had a fair shake at this award ceremony. Their have been many classic rock bands who have never received the award. Below is a link to a site that shows some of these well-known  bands, and they some are SHOCKING!

It's a Tough Gig

Success for musicians doesn't come at an easy price

For an individuals with raw talent it takes a lot of time, dedication, and even patience but being a band takes it to a new level. The most important aspect for a band success is their chemistry. How well does the beat of the drums go with the rhythm of the guitars? Do they collaborate well with the vocals? These are the questions we ask as listeners to determine in our own mines if they are a good or bad band.

I just want everyone to have an ideal of the struggles bands have to go through to reach fame. I read an excellent blog about the process it takes to make it on the big stage. He shares his personal experiences playing in a band, and explains each obstacle and band must overcome to be successful. If you're interested in having a better grasp of these obstacles here is a link to the blog I'm talking about. http://successfulband.com/why-it-takes-so-long-to-be-successful-and-why-its-good-for-your-band/

Here is a some songs by bands we all have come to know over the years, who have accomplished the same journey new groups are embarking on. Hope everyone enjoys tunes, rock on!

A Different Era

Whats up everyone, I'm Justin Bauer welcome to my blog!

We all know those crazy hair bands of the 70's & 80's our parents still listen to on car trips, right?
Myself included are one those kids who was exposed to it on a regular basis. My blog is about difference between two eras. Being apart of the Millennial generation I've noticed shifts in pop-culture from the Rock genre of our elders to the cultural shift towards Pop, Hip-Hop, and Rap music. Not many people my age (college students) are familiar with up and coming bands because interest in rock n' roll just isn't the same as it use to be.

My goal for this blog is to share some insight on talented bands that are on the rise and those timeless bands you just can never get enough of! I also want to compare and contrast the different eras of rock music, I feel it's important to compare the different generations of rock bands to see what similarity there still are, how it has evolved, and where this genre of music is heading.

More detail is to come in my future posts, I'm looking forward to anyone's feedback and thoughts on the changes in pop culture. We all have different preferences of music and I welcome anybody's input!
